Charming stands of wildflowers are often seen along roadsides, blooming in unrestrained and unruly profusion. This image shows a roadside with grass and flowers on a sunny summer day, with a vast field of baled hay behind it. A sparrow-like bird darts from one place to another. The flowers include yellow sunflowers, white Shasta daisies, and wild roses. Close inspection will show that the wild roses have thorns, as any proper rose should. "What is a rose without thorns?" runs the proverb. The purist will object "But those flowers don't all bloom at the same time!" My reply: This is art, not photography. All of these flowers can be in full bloom simultaneously in the land of John-Art!

The artist has been surprised to meet some people who have driven large mileages on the interstates and yet don't recognize the round, cylindrical hay bales. The bales seem to go on to the far horizon, suggesting that this is North Dakota. An image that will reward those who long for infinity.
